JAMES’S NEW HOME AND NEW
SCHOOL
James’s plane had just landed at Miami, Florida, at a new
home because his dad got a job promotion. His job was an engineer, and he
needed a better job. James didn’t like the job promotion. He was thousands of
miles away from France his old home. His flight was from Paris, France to Miami,
FL which is a pretty far distance for an 11 year old boy to travel. He was really
nervous because he spoke German and French and didn’t know what the kids would
think about him in middle school. He was sad because he missed all of his
friends that knew him and spoke his language. James’s mom was driving to the
new house. While James was looking out the window, he thought about all the fun
he would be having back in France with his friends. It was August 13th
still 19 days away from the first day of school. The days flew by like a
second. Finally it was the big day. It was the first day of school. As James approached
the bus his palms were sweaty. Then off the bus went. Finally, it was the first
day of school.
When James got to class, he went up to the teacher and said,
I’m the new kid but the teacher didn’t understand him because he was speaking
French. The teacher introduced him to someone in the office that spoke French.
When James was in the office, he saw a boy. The boy had blonde hair. James said
hi in French and the boy said hi in French too. James’s chin dropped. James
thought that the boy was pulling a trick on him but he wasn’t. James asked
what’s your name but there was no answer. All day James was in the office
practicing English. English is hard to learn James said. When James got home he
was still practicing English until one in the morning. The next day at lunch a miracle
happened, James was speaking English. Then a kid named John started talking to
him, “I remember you from somewhere. Are you the kid from the office?” “Yep,”
he replied. Suddenly John and James were best friends. James thought to himself
that he has a friend. James invited him
to come over to his house. The rest of the day flew by like a breeze. When John
arrived at James house he introduced him to his family.
While John and James
were doing their homework John said “Why does this house smell like a new house?”
James just then realized that he wasn’t
living in France anymore, he was living in the U.S.A. A feeling of happiness
came over him that he was somewhere new.
James started talking about the move and told John that the flight was
11 hours. “WOW!” John said. James mom said
that dinner was ready. At 8:00pm, John’s mom came to pick him up then James
went to bed. The next day when he went to school everything was fine. At lunch
James saw John. He started talking to him. James liked having John as a friend,
it’s like James could tell John anything.
While James and John
were walking down the hallway, John saw the five meanest people in school. “Hey
James, “John whispered quietly, “Don’t ever go near them because they are bullies.
I once saw them push a kid lunch on the floor.” They slowly walked passed them. John accidentally dropped his books on the
floor. One of the bullies turned around and came
back, picked up the books and handed them to John. James
thought for a second why would a kid part of the bullies group come back and do
something nice for someone? The next day John and James and the bullies were in
the hallway again, and the bullies started to pick on James. John and the kid
who picked up the books said something to stop the bully, “Why are you bullying
him it’s not nice to bully!” That second
the bullies realized it and stopped.
They said “sorry, we shouldn’t have done that.” Everyone cheered and James said that this is
the best home ever. James thought about how happy he was to have met John,
especially since he spoke French. James
wished to be friends with John forever and hoped for the rest of years at Great Bear Middle School that he will stick up
for himself and will teach others to
stick up for themselves. James decided that he is shouldn’t be nervous ever
again and to take charge when him or other get bullied. Most importantly he was
glad to be here in Miami, Florida.
