Did you know that in the savannas there is a tree that is so big that so people live in the trunk of that tree? The savanna is in the middle of a tropical rain forest and a desert. The temperature is about 70F all year round. The biggest savannas are in Africa. There are only 2 seasons, summer and winter. In the summer it is very wet, the savannas get about 25 inches of rain during summer. Also the temperature does not drop that much. In the winter it very dry, not much rain comes at all.
In the savannas there are very interesting animals. One is named a Gnu meaning wild beast, which is also related to a bull. It has hooved feet, long legs, sharp horns, humped shoulders, weighs about 600 pounds. There are actually cheetahs in the savannas. They are the fastest animals. They eat cantaloupes, have short sharp claws, they are top predators, with yellow/black fur.
In the savannas there is a type of horse called a Quagga. It has long white legs, brown coat of fur, large ears and eyes, dark color on it’s muzzle. The other animal is an African wild dog. It has white skin and is very fast. It has very sharp claws, is very dangerous, and is top predator.
There are very interesting plants in the savannas. There is a tree called a Jarrah tree. It could grow to 40-50 meters tall! The leaves can grow up to 13 cm long. There is a different type of tree called a baobab tree. It is on the equator, it can grow up to 25 meters tall, stores lots of water, it looks like a plant with the root sticking upwards. The tree is so big that some people live in the trunk of it! I hope you enjoyed learning about savannas.
